Description

Luxurious bluewater cruiser with generous living space

The Moody 54 was designed by Bill Dixon for Marine Projects and represents the classic concept of a spacious cruising yacht that can also be handled comfortably by a small crew. Characteristic of the design is the combination of a seaworthy yacht concept with an exceptionally generous living and accommodation space on board. Particularly below deck, the Moody 54 gives less the impression of a traditional sailing yacht and more that of a spacious, comfortable and luxurious home on the water.

The current owners purchased the yacht in 2023 in the Netherlands and subsequently sailed her themselves to the Mediterranean. Since her arrival, the Moody 54 has been based in Alicante, where the owners have mainly used her for day trips. The yacht has therefore already covered a considerable distance on her way to the Mediterranean before transitioning to her current use as a comfortable day and leisure yacht.

The layout of the Moody 54 is particularly spacious. In the forward part of the yacht is a large, bright guest cabin with a freestanding double bed, plenty of storage space and an adjoining bathroom with a separate shower. A further guest cabin with two bunk beds is currently being used as additional storage space, offering a variety of possible uses.

The centrepiece of the interior is the exceptionally wide and bright saloon. Large windows allow plenty of natural light into the interior, while the carpeted flooring creates a warm and homely atmosphere. The generous seating area, with its upholstered cushions and high-quality interior finish, provides a very comfortable and almost luxurious living environment. The width of the saloon not only provides ample space for sitting and relaxing, but also creates an impressive sense of spaciousness.

Directly adjoining the saloon to port is the well-equipped galley. It offers sufficient working and storage space and is arranged in a way that makes it comfortable to use even during longer stays on board.

The owner’s cabin aft extends across the full beam of the yacht and provides a generous private area. It features a large island berth as well as extensive storage space, while its width creates a particularly pleasant sense of space for a yacht of this size. The en-suite bathroom is also generously sized and features a separate shower.

Overall, the Moody 54 stands out particularly for its exceptionally generous interior layout, homely design and clear separation between private and communal areas. Combined with her previous use in the Mediterranean, she offers an interesting combination of a classic British cruising yacht and a comfortable living space for extended stays on board.

Under sail, the Moody 54 also demonstrates the character for which she was designed: seaworthy, forgiving and comfortable in a seaway, yet by no means sluggish. The Moody 54 combines a calm and comfortable motion with a respectable turn of speed for a large cruising yacht – a character that particularly comes into its own on longer passages and when sailing with a small crew. The yacht is currently located in Alicante and can be viewed by appointment.
